Ceiling fan installation in the Seattle area — including Newcastle, Renton, Bellevue, and Issaquah — typically runs between $150 and $400 per fan for labor, depending on whether a wiring run is needed and the complexity of the installation. Here is a breakdown of what drives the cost.
If you already have a ceiling light fixture with a fan-rated box and existing wiring, a straight swap to a ceiling fan is the most affordable scenario. Expect to pay $150–$200 for labor. The electrician will verify the box is fan-rated, disconnect the old fixture, mount the new fan, and connect wiring. The job typically takes 45–90 minutes.
If you want a ceiling fan in a room that has no existing overhead fixture — common in older Seattle-area homes with only wall outlets — the electrician will need to run new wiring from your panel or a nearby circuit, install a fan-rated box, and cut a switch opening. This is more involved: expect $350–$600 for labor, and potentially more if the attic is inaccessible or walls are finished.
Ceiling fans weigh more than light fixtures and vibrate when running. A standard light fixture box is not designed to support that weight and movement. Installing a ceiling fan on a non-rated box is a code violation and a safety risk — the fan can fall. A licensed electrician will always replace a non-rated box before mounting your fan.
Most homeowners want separate controls for the fan and the light. If the existing switch only has one hot wire running to the fixture (single-conductor), you have a couple of options: run a new 3-wire cable to the switch (adds cost), use a wireless remote kit, or install a smart fan controller that handles both functions over a single wire. Your electrician can advise on the most cost-effective approach for your home.
These are labor-only estimates. Fan hardware costs vary widely — from $80 budget fans to $500+ for premium models. We install customer-supplied fans or can source one for you.
We had three ceiling fans installed — one was a direct swap and two needed new wiring runs. Clarity Electric did all three in one day. Great work and reasonable pricing for the Seattle area.
