What Does EV Charger Installation Cost in Seattle?

Most homeowners in Newcastle, Renton, Bellevue, and the greater King County area pay between $600 and $1,500 for a complete Level 2 EV charger installation — including the dedicated 240V circuit, permit, labor, and materials but not the charger hardware itself. If a panel upgrade is required, add $2,500–$4,500 to that figure.

What Is Included in the Installation Cost?

A standard EV charger installation includes:

  • A new dedicated 240V, 50-amp circuit run from your electrical panel to the garage or charging location
  • A 60-amp breaker (NEC requires a 25% overhead for continuous loads)
  • 6-gauge wire in conduit or through the wall as appropriate
  • Mounting and wiring the charger (hardwire) or installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet (plug-in)
  • Permit and required inspection (mandatory in Washington State)

What Drives the Cost Up?

The biggest variables in EV charger installation cost in Seattle are:

  • Distance from panel to charger location: A garage adjacent to the panel is fast and inexpensive. Running conduit 60+ feet, through finished walls, or across a crawlspace adds time and materials.
  • Panel capacity: If your panel is full or undersized, you may need a panel upgrade before the charger can be installed. See our post on whether you need a panel upgrade for an EV charger.
  • Conduit type and routing: Surface-mount conduit along a garage wall is the most affordable option. Concealed wiring through finished spaces costs more.
  • Trench work: If you need to charge in a detached garage or driveway, underground conduit adds $500–$1,500 depending on distance.

EV Charger Hardware Cost

The charger unit itself is a separate cost from installation. Common options in the Seattle market:

  • ChargePoint Home Flex: $650–$750 retail
  • JuiceBox 48: $600–$700 retail
  • Tesla Wall Connector: $400–$550 retail (works with all EVs)
  • Grizzl-E Classic: $250–$350 retail — budget-friendly hardwire option

EV Charger Rebates in Washington State

PSE (Puget Sound Energy) customers may qualify for a rebate of up to $500 on Level 2 EV charger installation. Seattle City Light and other Washington utilities have offered similar programs. Rebate availability changes — check your utility's website for current offers before scheduling installation. We can provide the documentation required for most rebate applications.

Total cost for our ChargePoint Home Flex installation was around $1,100 including the charger. Clarity Electric handled the permit and got everything done in one morning. We got a $300 PSE rebate on top of it.
