The Grizzl-E Classic is a Canadian-made Level 2 EV charger known for its rugged build quality, simple design, and lower price compared to smart chargers like the ChargePoint or JuiceBox. It is a hardwire-only unit that delivers up to 40 amps (32 amps continuous) and works with any J1772-compatible EV — which includes every non-Tesla EV and Tesla vehicles with an adapter.
What the Grizzl-E lacks in smart features (no Wi-Fi, no app) it makes up for in reliability and value. For homeowners who do not need remote scheduling or energy monitoring, it is a solid choice.
Choose the Grizzl-E if: you want the lowest total cost of ownership, you do not need app control or scheduling, and you simply want to plug in and charge. Choose a smart charger (ChargePoint, JuiceBox, Tesla Wall Connector) if: you want to schedule off-peak charging to save on electricity rates, monitor energy usage, or take advantage of utility rebate programs that require a networked charger.
The Grizzl-E Classic requires a dedicated 240V, 50-amp circuit (60-amp breaker per NEC continuous load rules) and 6-gauge wire. It is hardwire-only — there is no plug-in version. A licensed electrician will run the dedicated circuit from your panel to the garage, mount the unit, and wire it in. The installation is identical to any other hardwire Level 2 charger.
The Grizzl-E Classic retails for $250–$350, making it significantly less expensive than most smart chargers. Combined with a standard installation ($600–$900 labor and permit for most King County homes), the all-in cost is typically $900–$1,300 — one of the most affordable complete Level 2 EV charger installations available in the Seattle area.
We went with the Grizzl-E because we did not need the app features and wanted to keep costs down. Clarity Electric installed it and it works perfectly. Great value option for a basic Level 2 charger.
