The JuiceBox 48 is a Wi-Fi-connected Level 2 EV charger that delivers up to 48 amps — one of the highest output ratings available in a plug-in or hardwire home charger. It is compatible with all J1772 EVs and, with an adapter, Tesla vehicles as well. The JuiceBox is manufactured by Enel X Way and is one of the more popular smart chargers among Seattle-area homeowners who want app-based scheduling and energy monitoring built in.
Unlike the Grizzl-E or other no-frills units, the JuiceBox 48 connects to your home Wi-Fi and pairs with a smartphone app that lets you schedule charging sessions, monitor energy use, and integrate with time-of-use utility rates to charge during cheaper overnight hours.
At 48 amps, the JuiceBox delivers more power than the ChargePoint Home Flex (50A max but more commonly run at 40A) and significantly more than the Grizzl-E Classic (40A). For most EVs, the difference in daily charging speed is minor — unless you have a long-range vehicle with a large battery and a short window to charge. The JuiceBox app is well-regarded for scheduling and energy reporting. If you want to take advantage of PSE off-peak rates, a smart charger like the JuiceBox or ChargePoint is a better fit than a basic unit.
Running the JuiceBox 48 at full output requires a dedicated 240V, 60-amp circuit (breaker sized to 60 amps per NEC continuous load rules) with 6-gauge wire. If you want to run it at a reduced amp setting — say 40 amps — a 50-amp circuit and 8-gauge wire may be acceptable, but we recommend sizing the circuit for the full 48 amps so you have headroom. The unit is available in both hardwire and 14-50 plug-in versions; the plug-in version requires a NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 50-amp circuit.
The JuiceBox 48 retails for approximately $600–$700. Combined with a standard installation in King County ($600–$900 for labor and permit in most cases), the all-in cost typically runs $1,200–$1,600 for most Newcastle, Renton, and Bellevue homes. Longer conduit runs, panel work, or difficult garage access can push the number higher — which is why we assess your specific situation before quoting.
Clarity Electric installed our JuiceBox 48 and it has been flawless. The scheduling app is great for charging overnight at the lower PSE rate. The whole install was done in under three hours and they handled the permit start to finish.
