ChargePoint Home Flex EV charger installation Seattle WA

Why the ChargePoint Home Flex Is a Popular Choice in Seattle

The ChargePoint Home Flex is one of the most commonly requested Level 2 EV chargers we install in Newcastle, Renton, and Bellevue. It is hardwire-capable, adjustable from 16 to 50 amps, Wi-Fi connected, and compatible with every major EV on the market — including non-Tesla vehicles via J1772. For homeowners who want flexibility without locking into one manufacturer's ecosystem, it is a strong choice.

What Circuit Does the ChargePoint Home Flex Need?

The ChargePoint Home Flex requires a dedicated 240V circuit. The amperage depends on what you want to run:

  • 50-amp circuit (max output): delivers up to 37 miles of range per hour of charging — the fastest home charging option and the one most EV owners choose
  • 40-amp circuit: delivers up to 25 miles of range per hour — sufficient for most daily driving
  • 30-amp circuit: delivers up to 18 miles per hour — acceptable for shorter-range or overnight charging situations

We typically install a 60-amp breaker with 6-gauge wire for a 50-amp charger, following NEC requirements for continuous loads. If you want room to upgrade later, this is the right spec.

Does Your Panel Have Space for a New 50-Amp Circuit?

This is the first question we answer on every EV charger job. Your panel needs an open 2-pole breaker slot and enough remaining capacity to support the new circuit. Many Newcastle and Seattle-area homes with 200-amp panels have plenty of capacity. If your panel is full or is an older 100-amp service, a panel upgrade may be required before the charger can be installed.

Hardwire vs Plug-In: Which Is Right for Your Home?

The ChargePoint Home Flex can be installed either hardwired directly or plug-in via a NEMA 14-50 outlet. For most permanent home installations in King County, we recommend hardwiring — it is cleaner, more secure, and eliminates the connector as a point of failure. If you rent your home or anticipate moving, a NEMA 14-50 outlet allows you to take the charger with you.

ChargePoint Home Flex Installation Cost in Seattle

All-in installation cost (labor plus permit, not including the charger hardware) typically runs:

  • Panel has open slot, garage is adjacent: $600–$900
  • Longer conduit run or subpanel involved: $900–$1,500
  • Panel upgrade required: add $2,500–$4,000

All EV charger installations in Washington State require a permit. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection as part of every job.

Clarity Electric installed our ChargePoint Home Flex in about four hours. They handled everything — the permit, the panel work, the conduit run to the garage. Professional and efficient.
